Snow Mobile Adventures In Yellowstone

The winters in Yellowstone Park is a perfect time and place for a snowy holiday tour. Sparkling under a heavy blanket of immaculate snow, the reserve seems to be calling and inviting everyone to experience an adventure in the icy cold wildlife.

The park is teeming with wildlife under blue clear skies. The area’s 10,000 hydrothermal features is a very welcome contrast to the otherwise bitingly cold landscape. I can’t think of a safer, comfortable or more exciting way to explore the icy terrain than by a snowmobile. Be sure that you suit yourself up in insulated snow suits, gloves, boots and helmets before you start your journey.

The tour will usually start at the south entrance of the reserve. It kicks off with a safety orientation, and you can be off on your snowmobile on the wide groomed roads of the the Yellowstone Park. You can stop for lunch at Old Faithful, and then you can go on with your rig and cruise along the banks of the Madison River. While on the banks, you can stop and view the thundering herd of wild bison that stay in the area during the winter. After the first day tour, you can exit through the west entrance and retire at the Stagecoach Inn which is a historic hotel at the center of all activities in West Yellowstone, Montana.

You might want to check out the Grizzly Discovery Center in West Yellowstone for day two. The bears are consistently fed even on winter so they do not hibernate. The center also maintains wolves that are delightfully active and visible to tourists. You can then reenter the park on your snowmobile and head north. Here you will pass the steaming geysers of the Norris Basin. You will have ample time to enjoy and view the Park Service Interpretative displays and the thermal area at Mammoth Hot Springs. After wards on your rig, you can coast along the banks of the Gibbon River that will take you to your nights lodging in Gardiner, Montana.

At the break of day three, one would probably think that all that needs to be seen in the park has been viewed, but the best is still to come. You would not want to miss an arresting vision of the frozen waterfalls of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. The last day of the tour provides for big game vistas and unbelievable high country scenery. On this day you will be traveling through the Hayden Valley. For most tourists and snowmobile owners, this is the highlight of the tour. There will be a lot of photo opportunities. You will then continue your tour along the shores of the Yellowstone lake and find yourself back to the south entrance where your journey started. You can take a conventional ride from there through the Grand Teton National Park to Jackson. Usually, that’s how the tour ends.

Many snowmobile drivers consider the Yellowstone Winter Tour the best choice for a winter weekend adventure. The awesome landscape and teeming wildlife is a perfect backdrop for a wild snowmobile adventure. These elements combined, make for a perfect mix for an exhilarating trip in the icy scape.

Your snowmobile will always be up for fun and crazy rides, but it can also take you to spots where you can commune and view nature’s artistic touches in all it’s majesty.
